11/29/2011 More games added

Payday The Heist, Tribes Ascend and Dungeon defenders have all been added to the database, none of which support AA or AF. Payday sports almost no options except for resolution which is a shame, both Tribes and Dungeon Defenders are Vert-, which for Tribes isn't a problem since you have FOV control from the menu. Tribes players with widescreen can mimic Horz+ behaviour with an FOV of 100 degrees for 16:10 monitors and 106 degrees for 16:9 monitors.

11/10/2011 Skyrim released

Skyrim has been released in to the wild, it comes with a poor FOV, bad mouse movement and forced Vsync, fixes for all these problems will be posted once they are confirmed.

11/01/2011 Fixed WSGF links

I've gone through the database and fixed many of the broken WideScreenGamingForum links which had stopped working when they overhauled their website, thanks for anyone who submitted requests to update me on this matter. I've also updated the blog section with a new post.

10/27/2011 New Blog post

It's been a while but I've added a new blog entry regarding PC elitism.

10/09/2011 Rage Patch released

Rage has been patched to add V-sync options and Anisotropic filtering controls amongst many other fixes, the standards have been updated to reflect the changes. AMD have also released updated drivers to help deal with other Rage issues, you can find 11.10 version 2 here

10/05/2011 Rage Added to the database

Rage has been released with some severe bugs and also a distinct lack of graphical options for the PC. I have linked fixes for Anisotropic filtering controls, Vsync Controls and mouse acceleration both in game and in the menu. It's also worth mentioning that right now the game is incredibly buggy for the PC with severe texture pop in, graphical artefacts and frame rate issues.

09/14/2011 ThePCelitist Youtube channel

For the last few months I've been watching a channel on youtube called ThePCelitist which discusses gaming from the PC perspective. If you've read my blog you'll know that I fall squarely in to this category. They have a lot of interesting topics and they deserve some support so check them out.

09/08/2011 More games added

More games added today including Amnesia The Dark Descent, Cogs, League of Legends, Terraria, Risk Factions, and more!

09/08/2011 Hard Reset added

Hard Reset isn't out yet, however the demo is and it passes everything with flying colours. The game is a PC exclusive and is a shining example of how these standards can be met if some attention is paid to the PC platform. I urge everyone to try the demo for this game and to consider buying it to support PC exclusive games.

09/06/2011 Deus Ex Human Revolution added

Deus Ex Human Revolution has been added to the database and passes every test. I would like take this opportunity to congratulate the developers on the additional PC features such as object highlighting toggle and Field Of View adjustment, all other FPS developers should pay close attention to these sorts of features.

07/26/2011 The Witcher II widescreen patch

The Witcher 2 has been updated to version 1.3 which now changes widescreen behaviour to Horz+, the database has been updated to reflect this.

06/10/2011 Duke Nukem Forever added

Duke has finally arrived! The game does fail some standards, it's missing Anisotropic filtering options and while it does have Anti-Aliasing options they don't allow fine control. The game does sport Horz+ widescreen which is good, however suffers from a low FOV. The game also suffers from mouse acceleration which cannot be completely turned off. Fixes to follow shortly.

05/31/2011 The Witcher II fixed widescreen

The Witcher 2 launched with anamorphic widescreen and has not yet been addressed in a patch, if you want to get rid of the black bars the database has been updated with a fix, courtesy of http://flawlesswidescreen.org

05/21/2011 Fable III added

Fable III has been added to the database, it passes everything except Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic filtering support.

05/18/2011 The Witcher II added

The Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings has been added to the database, unfortunately it does not support correct Horz+ behaviour and so leaves users of 16:10 monitors with letterbox and make eyefinity and multi-monitor unusable. Except for no Anisotropic filtering controls it passes everything else. A note to anyone wanted inverted mouse controls the game does not support that either, a big let down.

05/01/2011 Bioshock II added

Bioshock 2 follows the original and has pretty messed up widescreen with terribly low FOV which will irritate PC FPS fans no end. Graphics options for AA and AF are still missing but at least we have a fix for Vsync and mouse acceleration in the menus this time around. If anyone finds a fix for widescreen please use my contact form and get in touch.

04/21/2011 Portal II added

Portal 2 has been added, it passes all the standards like most valve games do, it does however run with a slightly low FOV which currently cannot be corrected.

04/17/2011 Assassins Creed II added

Assassins Creed 2 has been added to the database, unfortunately there is heavy mouse acceleration present and no fixes available which make the game awkward to play. Widescreen generally works well however is mixed anamorphic with Horz+ so unnecessary pillarboxing is present, as such fails the widescreen standard as well.

03/23/2011 Crysis 2 added, oh boy...

Crysis 2 has been added, what a mess. The graphics options in game are almost completely missing, there is no way to control anti-aliasing or anisotropic filtering, there is also horrible mouse acceleration applied. While the game passes the resolution and widescreen tests the FOV is woefully low.

03/23/2011 More games added

A few older games added, Defense Grid The Awakening and Evil Genius.

03/23/2011 Assassins Creed Brotherhood added

Assassins Creed brotherhood has been added to the database, it lacks anisotropic filtering control in game and it also uses anamorphic widescreen which introduces unnecessary letter-boxing, otherwise passes all other standards.

03/22/2011 Call for universal release dates

Rock, Paper, Shotgun have posted an article on trying to get a universal release date for games across the globe, this is something I've blogged about before and so I'm happy to see acknowledgement of this issue, there is also a petition to sign which I encourage people take part in. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/03/22/no-oceans-call-for-worldwide-release-dates/

03/12/2011 Dragon Age II added

Dragon Age 2 has been added to the database, it passes all standards.

02/24/2011 Bulletstorm added

Bulletstorm has been added to the database, unfortunately the PC version of this game has some shortcomings, it has an anamorphic implementation of widescreen and it's generally low FOV, as well as lack of Anisotropic filtering. Currently fixes for UT3 are working and linked for your convenience.

12/29/2010 Mack and Mesh are back!

After disappearing for 4 years, Mack and Mesh are back to their old tricks making videos of Mesh playing scary games, so far they have completed AvP3 and playing through Dead Space. The hilarity ensues as the videos swing back and forth between abject horror and laugh out loud moments. Check out their new site - www.mackandmesh.co.uk

12/16/2010 Just Cause II added

Just Cause 2 has been added to the database, it passes all standards.

11/17/2010 10,000 visitors milestone

Today PCGamingStandards celebrates reaching the milestone of 10,000 visitors with approximately 25,000 page views total. Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far, remember to let your fellow gamers know we're still here and continuing to grow.

11/11/2010 Call of Duty Black Ops added

Call of Duty: Black Ops has been added to the database, while it does pass most of the standards it has really awful widescreen support, the horizontal Field Of View can be altered but only to a maximum of 80 degrees which makes widescreen gaming mostly unusable. Luckily the folks at WideScreenGamingForum.com have done a good job of coming up with a fix, follow the link from the database straight to their download.

11/02/2010 New blog posts

I've made 2 new blog posts today, explaining lowest common denominator development for games, and addressing digital distribution release dates.

10/28/2010 New blog post added

It has been almost a year since I last blogged anything, I've just added a blog post about advertising and ad blocking, if you're not ad blocking right now, you should be! Select blog from the menu and have a read, please leave a comment with your opinions.

10/19/2010 Fallout New Vegas added

Fallout: New Vegas has been added and passes everything but mouse acceleration, the older problems with Fallout 3 such as widescreen seem to be fixed this time around, and some of the ini settings that caused frame rate issues and mouse lag are also fixed. Not a bad job Obsidian!

09/28/2010 Dead Rising II added

Dead Rising 2 has been release by Blue Castle Games for the PC and nails every standard, congrats to them for such good PC support.

09/25/2010 Civilization V added

Civilization V has been tested, it passes most tests, the widescreen appears Horz+ although early reports from WSGF show bad support for multi-monitor such as eyefinity. Anti-Aliasing is supported only with DX11 so if you have a DX11 capable system make sure to run the DX11 executable. Alt tab does not show your desktop but at least allows focus to other applications without issue. Vsync default to "on", but can be disabled from the menu. There is no in game Anisotropic Filtering, you can follow our guide for enabling it if you're using an ATI graphics card.

09/13/2010 R.U.S.E added.

R.U.S.E the latest in RTS games has been added to the database, it passes everything except Anisotropic filtering which is sadly lacking from the menu.

09/10/2010 More games added

More games added today, Cryostasis, Dirt 2, Arx Fatalis, Freedom Force, Amnesia The Dark Descent. Thanks go to DJ_Headshot for submitting these games.

09/10/2010 FEAR expansion packs added

FEAR: Extraction point and FEAR: Perseus Mandate have both been added. While Extraction point has some drawbacks with limited resolutions available, Perseus Mandate pulls through with a perfect score.

09/09/2010 A few more games

More games added, Crysis Wars, Hitman: Blood Money, Half Life: Opposing Force, Half Life: Blue Shift and Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45.

08/31/2010 Submit game data to PCGS

At the bottom of the main page there is a button to add game information to the database, it's sent to an admin for revision first. This feature was broken for a while and I've just fixed it, same goes for the contact form on the contact page.

08/31/2010 More games added!

More games have been added, Mafia II, Hitman Codename 47, Hitman 2 Silent Assassin, Red faction, Red Faction 2, Tales of Monkey Island, Full spectrum Warrior and Full Spectrum Warrior Ten Hammers

08/24/2010 More games added!

Finally I've added more games, way too many to list! I will be adding more over the next few weeks, all newly added games appear at the top of the front page.

06/29/2010 New websites

Hello everyone, a very long time since the last update, I apologise. 12/14/2009 No updates in a while

It's been a while since I've updated the website, I fell ill with swine flu which wasn't much fun, I've also been busy with work and recently dumped all my spare time in to finishing Dragon Age Origins. Fear not there is a cool update on the way which I will release soon. Stay tuned!

10/05/2009 Two months old today.

The site had its first documented view on the 4th of august which makes it 2 months old today. Also checking on the traffic stats it appears that today the site has exceeded 10,000 pageviews in that time. A big thanks to anyone who has submitted game information or left comments, it all helps improve the site.

The front page and news page have both had an overhaul for the news to make it a bit easier to find and read.

09/30/2009 New blog post on advertising

I've posted an update to the blog, this time about advertising. I'm going to try my best to keep the website advertising free and pay for the hosting costs out of my own pocket, right now that is no problem but in future it might not be so easy. Head on over to the blog section and leave a comment letting me know what you think.

09/25/2009 Dedicated Hosting

Well if this post works correctly it looks like my dedicated hosting is up and running, it took a little while to configure it all and some of you may get error while the DNS propogate but it will all settle down soon enough.

Adding the fantastic Max Payne, Max Payne 2 and Painkiller to the database has brought the total up to 50, whoop whoop.

09/18/2009 Added patch links

Each game has listed what patch was used when examining the game, this now links straight to a download page which contains all the games patches.

09/18/2009 Improved search

I've just spent a bit of time tweaking the website, first of all the search has been improved to recognize multiple words and not just match exact phrases, for example searches for "half life" will now find Half-Life.

09/15/2009 Graphics fixes available

I've spent tonight adding a graphical fixes page which lists generic fixes for AA/AF and Vsync. So far there is only guides for ATI users but I will add Nvidia guides soon. The database has been updated to add this page link to any game which fails any of the 3 catagories and doesn't already have a unique fix.

09/13/2009 Stats and games added

If you think you can help populate the database and understand the criteria listed on the Standards page, please use the contact form to get in touch with me.

08/13/2009 Blog page has been added

I've just finished coding the very basics for a blogging page which is wired directly to the database. Because it also uses the database I can easily generate a seperate RSS feed for it, and look at possibly feeding alerts to twitter.

08/13/2009 Finally new fonts

I've picked a set of basic fonts to start with rather than the horrible default ones, I don't know if I like them yet but they'll do for now.

08/13/2009 Another test for the RSS feed
